2009 is the year of giving birth to new things and the prayer team believes that the Lord will move in supernatural ways during the year.

We started the year with a powerhouse prayer meeting as the prayer team dedicated themselves and the church to the Lord as we wanted to “start the year off right!”

A major theme for us during this time in our church, community and nation was alignment with God’s word and Spirit, and to be positioned for provision.  Our prayers have been inspired by the Holy Spirit, and deep revelation about God’s plans, intent and purpose was received. It is wonderful to see how the Lord honours faithful servants and uses ordinary people to bring change to a world in need of Jesus Christ’s love and mercy.

During this season, our prayer meetings have been filled with prophetic acts to give expression of how we believe the Lord was going to bring breakthrough in the areas we had asked.  Our city, community and the nation were heavy on our hearts and the prophetic acts, explosive prayer meetings, and prayer walking continued.

We recently had a “Taking the City” prayer walk, where we gathered at North Beach, Durban to claim our city, community and nation for Christ.  The rains came down, the wind howled and the sea was turbulent, but we were undeterred.  We prayed for a window of opportunity to walk out onto the pier to claim our city and the Lord obliged – the rain stopped, the wind died down and the seas were calm! 

Four little bottles with our community’s flag inside, were released into the sea with a special prayer prayed over them prior to “launching” them. The four corners of the globe were covered and the lands of all the earth! We are taking geographic and spiritual territory to see Jesus Christ be glorified amongst all nations.

We believe that the Lord would honour the words from Jeremiah 33:6-9 (NIV) spoken over Durban and her people, but we know that the Lord will do this for your city where a righteous people call on the name of the Lord:

"Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.  I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honour before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it."

When looking back over the first quarter of 2009, the evidence of God honouring prayerful hearts is plain to see.

We know to stand; to be positioned correctly and aligned with God’s word, spirit and purpose!  The prayer explosion has happened and the ripple effect will be seen and felt! Watch this space…
