Who are you listening to?

My folks have just been to Durban for a visit.  My Mom and I were talking about a genetic illness that runs in our family and she said to me, “Deal with it, it is in our genes.”  There and then I told her that I cut those words off in Jesus’ name, and that I don’t have to walk under that curse.  She thought I was nuts, but it got me thinking about WHO it is that we are listening to and agreeing with.

Often, I can get into agreement with the devil, rather than with God.  Are you agreeing with the devil about your life and the things in your life?  How often do you agree with the enemy about the following? I sure have:

You will never amount to anything.
You are worthless.
You will never be really happy; all those promises God made to you are just “pie in the sky” stuff.
That family curse will hit you as well.
See I told you, you won’t get that promotion.
See, nothing good ever happens to you.

The list goes on and on.

Lately, I have made a very conscious effort to watch what I say. I’m more aware of whom I’m agreeing with, and I refuse to agree with the enemy.  I’m careful of whom I listen to and allow to speak into my life.  I mostly speak out positive stuff over my life and those around me.  I think I never really realised how bad it is to speak negatively into others’ lives - and my own.

When you look at Matthew 18:19, it becomes very clear that if we are in agreement about something, it needs to rather be in agreement with God, as we seal things into our lives by the things we speak out and agree on!

Matthew 18:19-20 (The Message):

"Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, God in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there."

Be sure you are agreeing with God and God’s wonderful promises about giving you the abundant life (Eph 3:20).

I don’t get this right all the time, but being aware makes it much easier to change it. Are you ready to rather agree with God about who you are?
