Stop Stalling Your Calling
Thu, 07/14/2011 - 21:39
We have all been called by God. For each of us, how we carry this out will differ, but there is one fundamental task for us all, and that is we are all to show God's love and to reveal the truth of God's word to the world... to the ends of the earth. Are we all doing this, or are there still too many who are just spectators?
Even in my life as I am involved in ministry, I have to sometimes ask myself, “am I doing all I can and am I doing what God wants me to do?” Sometimes I believe I am, and other times I am a bit slow to action what God requires of me, but this is a development area for me (as a recovering procrastinator) and so, as long as I keep submitting this to God, then progress does and will follow.
But to begin with, if you have not heeded the call, then I suggest you do so now. Being called doesn’t always mean you are going into full-time ministry. For some it may, and for others it means you are taking your place in God’s Kingdom and committing to live a righteous life. In 2 Peter 1:10 (NIV) it says, “Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.”
In The Message translation, it calls it an invitation, one which really should not be ignored:
“So, friends, confirm God's invitation to you, his choice of you. Don't put it off; do it now. Do this, and you'll have your life on a firm footing, the streets paved and the way wide open into the eternal kingdom of our Master and Saviour, Jesus Christ.” (MSG)
Don’t take a rain check on this one, RSVP now!
There are so many reasons to accept God’s invitation; here is just one in John 15:16, "You didn't choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won't spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Heavenly Parent in relation to me, God gives you. (MSG)
You don’t have to come with any qualifications, God takes us as we are, and turns us into whom we need to be.
God reminds us of this in 1 Corinthians 26, “Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.” (NLT)
And in verse 30 we find out why: “Everything that we have — right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start — comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That's why we have the saying, "If you're going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God." (MSG)
So, once again I say, “Stop stalling your calling!”
