James 4: 14 says, “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?” (NLT)
In this day and age, we like to believe we are secure. But what we really do is control, manipulate, and hold onto what we have, with clenched fists and locked jaws.
So how can we have it all whilst letting it all go? Well, it’s simple – give it to God and allow God to plan your future.
We need to accept the fact that we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but rest in the promise that God has it all under control.
Recently we’ve been learning in church in a series, entitled ”Living Authentically in the Supernatural” by Pastor Deborah, on how to let go of pretence, false expectations, and allow the truth to expose any and all falsehood we have, and to embrace transparency, authenticity and a deeper level of surrender to God. One of the things that God’s really been speaking to me about is just how much control I actually still wield.
I’m coming to the realisation that I can’t hold onto my life while claiming to trust God. Not even my tomorrows are under my control and that’s a scary thought (and for those who think they’re in control of their lives).
Those people who are control “addicts” try to reason it out by saying, “It’s my life after all!  Isn’t it? Don’t I have a say in what happens?”
Well, not really. Listen to what Pauls says, “You don’t belong to yourself for God bought you with a high price...” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
So why don’t we surrender to Jesus? Well, it is because we are secure and comfortable in our surroundings. It is the familiarity of being in control that makes us addicted, even when the environment is toxic.
When we start letting go, we start to grow, and start living in God’s anointing! By giving control over to God totally, we’ll ensure that we have a good future, because it is God who makes the plans for us, and not us.
If we are people of faith, this knowledge should bring us great relief, trusting that God is far more capable to deal with any crisis than we are. After all, isn’t that why we call God, “Lord and Master”?
So why not start right now, by giving those things over to the Lord in prayer?  See what a difference this will make, not only for your today, but also for your tomorrow and for your future.
By surrendering control, you can be assured that your future is being planned right.
