The "Old" Nature

After Rev. Deborah Bell's sermon last Sunday night, I have been asking myself, over and over, why it is that we hold on to the old nature with such desperation, and why we cling to a life that leads to death. Is it because we still think that this life is all there is? Is it because we don’t want to understand that nothing from this world will go with us to heaven?

Bruce Wilkinson put it so nicely in one of his books: this life on Earth is like a big dot, and after we die, it's like a long line that can never end; that is eternal live - it lasts forever! Hard to understand, I know, but that is what it is. Let me make it a bit more visual: the O represents your life here on earth, and next to it the line that runs and never ends, which is eternal life:

O ---------------------------------------------- >

Does it make sense?

It is rather scary isn’t it, to think that life on earth will end, and eternity will run forever and ever? I love what Hebrews 9 says about us needing a complete overhaul, but only if we are willing to let go of the old nature, the old structures, the old mindsets and the old attitudes, can we begin to allow Jesus to overhaul us with the His Blood.

How do you want to spend eternity? You choose!
