Oh My Word!

Yes! The spoken words we utter or even unspoken words are powerful and can bring about so many situations, they can build or they can destroy, bring joy or anger or tears. Can there be any question as to how important what you say is? Whether spoken or email or text! God has cautioned us to guard our tongues, our minds and our hearts.
“It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.” (James 3:5-6, MSG)
I have many times heard people say things like; “I didn’t mean it, I was just angry at the time.” It is precisely at those times of not thinking rationally that we should stop and think carefully before we speak. Or sometimes people make unnecessary critical comments about others, and that can be hurtful.
My sister was at the receiving end of such a comment last week and as she spoke to me about it I could tell it bothered her even though she said this person constantly critisises and that was just the way they are. Well that may be so and there may be various reasons for such a critical spirit and that person speaking out unkind words probably doesn’t even realise what impact it is having, I think some may even think they’re being funny. So I just want to say be aware of what you say, rather be someone who speaks out words that build people up not pull them down.
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29, NIV)
Lets go out there and speak out good and kind words to one another, words that bring joy, good feelings and much laughter!
Blessings
