Nothing but the Blood of Jesus
"Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!" - John 1:29 (NKJV)
When I reflect on the blood that Jesus spilt on the cross, I think upon its purity and Jesus' sinless life. He was tempted but did not sin. Jesus’ gave his life as a ransom, in absolute surrender, so that we would be freed from sin and death.
At one point in my youth when I was very ill with cancer and receiving treatment, I was in need of a blood transfusion. I had to wait to receive it, because my blood type is fairly rare (it is estimated that only about 6% of people are A-negative). When I received the blood, I was acutely aware of how precious that blood was. As it ran through my veins, it felt as though I had a new lease on life.
As believers, every one of us has an infinitely more precious blood type running through our veins: the blood of Jesus! It is this blood that truly takes us from spiritual death and brings us into life.
Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and his blood that was shed, we now have an everlasting covenant. Jesus’ blood cleanses us because it has the power to remove the stain of sin in our lives. It not only removes our blemishes in God's sight, but by the blood there is power to reverse the damage done by the enemy, and to take back what is ours through Christ.
Jesus' blood never fails! It is a divine mystery. Through the indescribable price that Jesus paid on the cross as the once-and-for-all sacrifice, we begin to realise the magnitude of its power. In Revelation 12:11, we capture a further glimpse of the power of the blood of Jesus: "They overcame him (the accuser) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." (NIV)
Let us thank God today, because we “have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace” (1 Peter 1:2 NLT).
