At Home with God
This past weekend I heard a pastor speaking about God’s presence and he spoke about not just wanting a visitation but a habitation. And that got me thinking; that is so true!
If you think about what habitation means, it is a dwelling place, and that is exactly what you and I must be for God and God for us. We shouldn’t just want occasional visits from God; God is with us all time. I think we sometimes choose to ignore that and that is unfortunate because during those times we don’t allow God’s supernatural ways to be operational in our lives. How we limit ourselves!
God’s word tells us where our dwelling place is: "The eternal God is a dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms." (Deut. 33:27)
The way I see it is, when we are in God’s presence we have God’s love, joy, peace and strength with us. So why would we not want that with us all the time?
The blessing given to the tribe of Benjamin in Deut 33:12 is for us too: “God’s beloved; God’s permanent residence. Encircled by God all day long, within whom God is at home.” (MSG)
Another meaning for habitation is: A natural environment or locality.
When we are in a good place spiritually we become a natural environment for God to be. When we feel comfortable in a place we are in, we sometimes use the phrase, “I feel at home here.” That is how we must feel in God’s presence and God will be at home with us.
One of my favourite songs is “Eagles' Wings,” part of the lyrics are: “abide in me I pray... hide me in your love, bring me to my knees, may I know Jesus more and more. Come live in me, all my life take over, come breathe in me, and I will rise on eagles’ wings.”
So let’s not flutter around on the ground like a little bird fallen out of its nest, let God inhabit us permanently so we may rise on eagles’ wings!
