David - what a mentor and what a model! When reading one of David’s psalms, I was so touched by how David knew his God and loved his God. David was not a perfect person at all, but a person God called “a person after My own heart” (1 Samuel 13:13-14). Now that is how I want God to refer to me also: “Look there is my daughter Brigitte, a person after My own heart.”

Whilst reading Psalm 25, I saw God through David’s eyes and I realised there is way more to God than I know. David really knew God! When he was out alone in the field as a shepherd boy, tending his family’s sheep, he found God in the heavens. He saw God’s splendour and started to understand the GREATNESS of God. 

When he was anointed to be King, he didn’t run around and MAKE it happen; no, he knew that the God of the heavens, Whom he’d got to know in the wilderness, would come through for him, in every promise God had made. Even when David had Saul in his power, he walked away.

How often have I used what seemed as an opportunity to MAKE things happen, when God promised something, and I thought God wasn’t listening, or not doing things as quickly as I thought God should!

Gosh, we as a people - and I so include myself in this - just can’t wait on anything! We like the quick fixes, the two-minute noodle solutions. But David, he waited on God; he waited on God for over 20 years before he became King. Even though, he too, had only a promise from God to hold onto, he walked his walk out to honour the God he so loved. It wasn’t for self, not for what he could get out of it!

But the question is, no matter what we facing, are we relying on our own strength and wisdom to get us through? Or do we get frustrated because we can only see so far ahead? David could see only bits and pieces; but he was given just enough at a time, to be able to take the next step in his life. What made it possible for David, was that he knew the One who was doing the unfolding.
