Are you building yourself up, or someone or else?
I love King David, as he is a perfect example of someone who knew that he was imperfect, and it was because of this knowledge, that he always humbled himself before God and people.
He sought after God’s heart and, although he didn’t always get things right, when he messed up, he repented.
In 2 Chronicles 28:2-10, we see David’s humility and heart for God being revealed. He wanted to build a temple for God where the Ark of the Covenant could rest. God said to him that this task would not be his responsibility but his son’s, Solomon. David was obedient and instructed and blessed Solomon for the task.
We can learn so much from this small passage of scripture. How often do we feel like that “job” should have been ours? We say things like, "I am more qualified, experienced to do it! ME, ME, ME! Haibo!"
When there is someone in need and we want to reach out and help them, there is nothing wrong with that, but we must check our motives. Why do we want to do it? David could easily have said, “I’m going to build a temple for the Ark of the Covenant!” Who would’ve known? His heart was to be true to God and to build God’s Kingdom through his obedience. God had already blessed David with so much and he knew it.
When there is a task to be done, or a job on offer, and you are not the one who is asked to do it or promoted, don’t allow pride or arrogance to get a hold of you. Remember, there is something else that God has in store for you. You will build the Kingdom, but truly submit yourself to God and know that this is not about you, but about others. Allow God to do through you what God wants to do. I love this saying from a popular TV series… “Resistance is futile!”
