Above All

Tirone writes, ""It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by people's hands. Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God." (II Kings 17-19)

God is above all powers and all the rulers of this world. God has brought the strongest of principalities down to their knees. God exists outside of time, and no-one can fathom all that God encompasses. Gods ways are not our ways, and Gods thoughts are vastly different from our limited contemplations of the universe.

In summary, our God reigns, above all. What is our response to such a God?
"

Our God is worthy of all praise, all-deserving of splendour and honour.  Yet it is the very same God Who came as a servant King to this Earth.  As Christ, He showed the fullness of His Love by washing His disciples feet, and even to the point of death on a cross for us.  Surely, for all that God is, and all that God has done for us, God has earned so much more than even the very best we have to offer.  All we can do is worship.

What if we choose not to worship God?  I think Louie Giglio so accurately concluded that, inherently, we are all worshipers.  That includes you, me, and the person at the counter who assisted you when you paid your TV licence.

We were created for worship.  We can choose to worship God or the riches of this world.  For as long as the human race has existed, people have worshiped idols, whether they were carved out of stone or  etched in platinum.

Of course, were Christians, so we worship God!  But it isnt that simple.  As Gods children, we may think we are immune to worshiping idols.  But we are warned that anything that takes the rightful place that God should have in our hearts can be an idol.  Our daily words and actions dictate and reveal the object of our worship.  Can others see we are worshipers of God?  What does the overflow of our hearts reveal?

All we can do is worship.  And whoever or whatever it is that we choose to worship, our God reigns, above all.
